Project Scope
This project aimed to design an educational awareness platform for individuals affected by multiple myeloma. The objective was to inform patients, caregivers, and their families about the disease, treatment options, research developments, and available support. The platform's tone was intended to be human, inclusive, and reassuring—presenting complex medical information in an accessible, empathetic, and visually engaging way. A key theme of the platform was “FaMMily,” highlighting togetherness and strength through community. The platform needed to function as both an educational resource and an emotional support tool.
Design Process
The design journey began with a content audit and stakeholder workshops to define the platform’s purpose, audience needs, and tone of voice. We crafted a warm, person-first design language that balances clinical accuracy with emotional comfort. Visual design featured a bold and cohesive colour system anchored in bright oranges and soft blues, chosen to promote positivity while maintaining contrast and clarity for accessibility. We structured the content architecture to follow a natural learning progression—starting with an introduction to the disease, followed by symptoms, diagnostic processes, treatment pathways, and ongoing research. Photography played a major role in creating connection and empathy; we cast a diverse group of individuals to reflect the community spirit. Each section used modular layouts with expandable content, simplified medical diagrams, and integrated CTAs to guide users through the site without cognitive overload. Particular focus was given to making the interface usable for older adults or those with limited digital experience. The platform was designed responsively to accommodate mobile-first usage, ensuring accessibility across devices.
Results
Still in the awareness and testing phase, the platform demonstrates a high degree of design maturity through its careful balance of medical depth, visual clarity, and emotional resonance. Feedback from patient advocacy groups and internal stakeholders highlighted that the platform successfully destigmatises the condition and promotes a sense of belonging and support. The modular structure and plain-language approach help make complex topics approachable without oversimplification. Early engagement metrics, such as time on page and exploration depth, suggest that users are interacting meaningfully with educational content and navigating between sections confidently. While the full impact will be assessed post-launch, the design already serves as a model for how pharmaceutical and healthcare communication can be made more human, inclusive, and effective.
